Renee Arakaki

Renee Arakaki (b. August 12, 1957) earned degrees in composition from  the University of Hawai’i (MM) and Northwestern University (DM),  studying with Allen Trubitt, Armand Russell, E. Takeo Kudo, Donald  Womack, J. Mark Scearce, Michael Pisaro and M. William Karlins.  Her compositions incorporate pitch and rhythmic elements from traditional Okinawan and Hawaiian music, infused with energy reflective of a decade of gigging as a rock guitarist and singer.  Fascinated by kinetic, emotional, visual and communicative aspects of art, Renee collaborates often with choreographers, visual artists and creative writers in producing multifaceted performance pieces.
